David, Emma, Tommy and I, together we dodged a bullet.
As a breast cancer survivor, I thought a lot about what I could do to help others, what I could do to give back.
Recently, I have been given the opportunity to share my breast cancer story publicly. Sharing my story, both in person and through media has inspired others to donate and support Women's College Hospital. Speaking out is something, so out of my comfort zone, something I never thought I would do but I’m so glad I did. I’m making a difference.
It has been an overwhelmingly rewarding experience to help Women’s College Hospital Foundation fundraise for a hospital to which I owe so much. But I’m not done. I also have a personal goal to raise $50,000 to help fund research projects at Women’s College Hospital. Projects that will help many more women like me.
You already know my story. You know that if it wasn’t for a research study, conducted at Women’s College Hospital, I would not know that I carried a mutation in the BRCA2 gene. I would not have my first mammogram at the age of 39 and ultimately my breast cancer would still be undiagnosed today.
If it weren’t for the early diagnosis of my breast cancer, my story would have a very different ending. I would need invasive cancer treatment, or worse, my life could have been cut short. Research saved my life.
I am now calling on my friends and family to help me support a cause that is so close to my heart. I hope you'll make a gift today and I thank you so much for supporting me, both in my time of need and now in my quest to help others like me.
Thank you for your generous support!
